About Ji Hyang Ryu

Ji Hyang Ryu is an award-winning Korean-Canadian visual artist, muralist, and educator based in Riverview–Moncton, New Brunswick. Her artwork has been acquired by the Government of Canada through the Canada Council for the Arts Art Bank and Global Affairs Canada, recognizing her as one of the country’s leading emerging voices in contemporary Canadian art.

Ji Hyang is the founder and director of the Ji Hyang Ryu Art Studio & Gallery, opened in March 2024. The gallery serves as both a creative hub and a teaching space, offering fine art classes, exhibitions, and community mural projects that inspire hundreds of students across the Greater Moncton region.

Her art seamlessly blends Korean heritage, Canadian landscapes, and modern expression, exploring themes of cultural harmony and human connection. Known for her vibrant murals and expressive oil paintings, Ji Hyang has completed major public art commissions throughout New Brunswick, including works for the Elsipogtog community, Town of Sussex, TransAqua, and the Town of Riverview.

In 2025, she co-hosted the 2nd Annual Battle of Brushes with the Town of Riverview and led a community mural project at the Riverview Skate Park with sixteen student artists. Her leadership and mentorship continue to nurture young creatives and strengthen the local art community.

Ji Hyang’s commitment to art and entrepreneurship was celebrated when her studio was named a Finalist for the Emerging Business Award (2025) by the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce. She has also received multiple provincial and national art grants, represented New Brunswick at the Art Battle Canada National Championships, and been featured by Global News (2020) and CBC Radio-Canada (2021).

Beyond her studio, Ji Hyang enjoys practicing pottery and spending time with her family. Every creation—from a large-scale mural to a delicate ceramic bowl—reflects her passion for storytelling, cultural connection, and the beauty of everyday life.

Through her art, Ji Hyang Ryu continues to bridge cultures, uplift her community, and inspire others across New Brunswick and beyond.
